Haltech V8 SuperUtes Series leader Aaron Borg has topped the timesheets in the category’s sole practice session at Winton.
Borg not only set the benchmark time, but was within 0.02s off David Sieders’ V8 Utes record set in his Holden VE Commodore SS from 2016 ensuring the mark will be lowered during this afternoon’s qualifying session.
Setting a 1m 35.874s lap in his Sieders Racing Team Holden Colorado, Borg was 0.212s clear of stablemate lap record holder Sieders in his Mitsubishi Triton.
This is Sieders second round for the year after returning to the category in Perth.
Former series leader Craig Woods was third in his Toyota Hilux from Western Sydney Motorsport teammate Ben Walsh, while Gerard Maggs made a successful return to the category in fifth driving the Ford Ranger Harry Gray has raced at previous rounds.
The Ryco 24.7 Mitsubishi Triton of Craig Dontas finished the session sixth ahead of Rohan Barry, Jaidan Maggs (World’s Best Technologies Mitsubishi Triton), George Gutierrez (Go Sunny Solar Holden Colorado) and Dave Casey (Bendix Racing Isuzu D-Max).
A red flag did appear in the session to recover Gutierrez’s Go Sunny Solar Holden Colorado due to a mechanical problem.
Local Ellexandra Best was 11th in the Best Leisure Industries Mitsubishi Triton as the field was rounded out by Dean Brooking (Gates JKD Racing Team Toyota Hilux) and Craig Jenner (Craig Jenner Racing Mazda BT-50).
Qualifying for Round 3 of the Haltech V8 SuperUtes Series at Winton occurs at 2:05pm AEST.
Borg holds a 13-point lead into the four races to be held this weekend.
