CASEY AND BENDIX SECURE 2023 SUPERUTE ASSULT

Sieders Racing Team’s David “Mudflap” Casey will return to the Haltech V8 SuperUte Series in 2023 with Bendix continuing as the naming rights sponsor for the Rockhampton rookie.

Finishing 6th outright in his first year of circuit racing, the #5 Isuzu D-MAX steerer walked away with 13 top-10 race finishes and the Sportsmanship Award at the season-ending awards night in October for his exemplary conduct on and off track.

With news he is returning in 2023, we sat down with Casey to talk about his first season with SuperUtes and his hopes for the new year.

How will you reflect on your rookie year in SuperUtes?
DC: 2022 was one of the most enjoyable and beneficial seasons of racing I’ve had in my life. We visited some of the best race tracks in the country and the camaraderie between fellow competitors and teams is fantastic. But most importantly I’ve developed myself as a driver on the tarmac a lot more which I’m really proud of.

What were some highlights of the season for you?
DC:Probably finishing 5th in Race 2 at the Gold Coast round. After working hard with my coach Leigh [Stamation] from the middle of this year, we really started to see some solid improvements moving forward which led to my first top-five to finish the year off good.

How are you looking forward to 2023 with Bendix back on board?
DC: Yes it’s unreal to have Bendix back again for 2023. I’m so proud to be flying the flag for such a great Australian manufacturer. It is also very exciting to be starting the 2023 season in a brand new Isuzu D-MAX SuperUte as well. Performance wise the parity across all cars is very similar but it’s always nice to have a new car to race. We’ll have a revamped Bendix livery too which is going to look so cool!

So your rookie season is over. What are your goals for 2023?
DC: After finishing our first year in 6th outright, we hope to better that by finishing further up the ladder again. And maybe sneak in a few podiums as well! Leigh, Brandon [Zammit], Sieders Racing and myself will be working hard in the off season to bring the new D-MAX up to pace! So I’m very excited to see what the Bendix Racing crew can do in 2023!
