EXPANDED SUPERUTES FIELD SET FOR PERTH SEASON OPENER

The V8 SuperUte Series will begin its 2023 season with a 19-entry field at CARCO.com.au Raceway in Western Australia this week (28-30 April 2023)

The bolstered competitor line-up includes former category champions Ryal Harris and Aaron Borg, plus Super2 racer Adam Marjoram, Aussie Racing Car champion Adrian Cottrell and Toyota 86 champion Jimmy Vernon.

Other category favourites also return including David Sieders, Ben Walsh, Craig Woods, George Gutierrez, Richard Mork, father and son duo Gerard and Jaiden Maggs, and Ellexandra Best. Round 1 at the Perth SuperSprint will also welcome former Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medallist John Steffensen as he embarks on his first season in SuperUtes.

“It’s a fantastic turn-out considering not just the huge travel and logistics required to compete on the other side of the country, but also that we have five new car builds competing at Round 1 as well,” said category operations manager Filippa Guarna.

“Last year we made a conscious effort to streamline the operations of the category and work on our future growth and that meant more cars. It’s no secret that more cars would mean better racing and now we have 19 SuperUtes for Perth with some of the best young talent of amazing pedigree.

“The aim is to not to just build a strong category but be a leader in market relevance as well. The twin-cab ute spectator base is super passionate and supportive of what we’re doing, so racing across five different states and with some new rounds this year will help us grow even more. Everyone in the paddock is super excited for the season ahead,” said Guarna.

Supporting the Repco Supercars Championship for its six-round calendar, the series will herald its largest and most exciting season to date with six manufacturers represented including Ford, General Motors, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota.

Covering events from east to west, the V8 SuperUte Series begins this weekend in Perth, followed by events at Sydney Motorsport Park and The Bend Motorsport Park, before finishing off strong with three marquee events including the famed Repco Bathurst 1000.
