Ryal Harris doubles up on the Gold Coast

Ryal “The Kid” Harris has taken his second victory of the weekend in the penultimate race of the Haltech V8 SuperUtes Series on the Gold Coast.

The Sieders Racing Team Triton of David “Sideways” Sieders made a slow getaway as Aaron “A A Ron” Borg in the ACDelco Sieders Racing Team Holden Colorado led into the first chicane followed by Harris in the Super Butcher Ford Ranger and Harry “Styles” Gray’s Ryco 24.7 Racing Triton.

However, entering the back chicane Gray lost control just prior to the exit and hit the outside wall. He did remove the Triton from the scene, but the damage was too severe to continue elevating Craig “Big Sexy” Woods into the podium places driving the Western Sydney Motorsport Toyota Hilux.

The battle for the lead was decided at Turn 4 on lap 2 when Harris made a textbook pass on Borg, who just needed to finish to seal the title as Woods held off Sieders to round out the podium.

Behind, Ben “The Jet” Walsh finished fifth in the Fat Freddy’s Lager Toyota Hilux from Rohan “Silver fox” Barry in the Abcor Racing Toyota, the World’s Best Technology Triton of Jaiden “Boy Wonder” Maggs and George “El Gringo” Gutierrez in his Go Sunny Solar Holden Colorado.

Richard “Grey Gonads” Mork continued his run of top 10s to be ninth in the City Rural Insurance Brokers Mazda BT-50 as Chris “Jazz Hands” Formosa followed driving the Allgate Motorsport Ford Ranger.

Dean “The Professor” Brooking just missed the top 10 in the Gates JKD Racing Team Hilux, as Dave “Mudflap” Casey spun at Turn 1 to be 12th for Bendix Racing in the Isuzu D-Max.

The race finished one lap early due to Ellexandra “NotZak” Best hitting the wall exiting the opening chicane driving the Best Leisure Industries Mitsubishi Triton.

The final race of the 2022 Haltech V8 SuperUtes season will begin at 12:20pm AEST (1:20pm AEDT).
